Dr. Steven A. Chambers
Steven Chambers, Ed.L.D, M.Div. (he/him) is the Executive Director of the New York City Young Men’s Initiative (YMI) where he leads the City’s effort to develop and champion policies, programs and partnerships that holistically support the success of young men of color. Dr. Chambers collaborates with New York City Hall, city agency commissioners, organizational leaders, and community members to ensure intentional, high quality, and streamlined systems of support.
Prior to YMI, Steven served as Senior Advisor to New York City’s Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives-providing direct support for city agencies including NYC’s Department of Community & Youth Development (DYCD), the City University of New York (CUNY), the NYC Children’s Cabinet, in addition to spearheading various special initiatives and projects for the city’s most vulnerable populations.
An educator and theologian by training, Steven’s professional tenure includes classroom teaching, school district administration, pastoral leadership, community development, college and career coaching, and youth mentorship.
An Ohio native and Teach for America Alum, Steven is a graduate of Hampton University, Vanderbilt Divinity School and received his Doctorate of Education Leadership (Ed.L.D.) from Harvard University. A resident of Harlem, Dr. Chambers is intentional about approaching the work of community engagement and system leadership through the lens of human-centered design, gender and racial equity, and holistic wellness.
